THE
SECRET OF DAVID the King!!
2 Samuel 7:15-22
15 So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD
with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet.
16 And as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David, Michal Saul's
daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing
before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart.
17 And they brought in the ark of the LORD, and set it in his place, in
the midst of the tabernacle that David had pitched for it: and David offered
burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD0 Then David returned
to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet
David, and said, how glorious was the king of Israel to day, who uncovered
himself to day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of
the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself! {Shamelessly: or, openly}
21 And David said unto Michal, It was before the LORD, which chose me
before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over
the people of the LORD, over Israel: therefore will I play before the
LORD.
22 And I will yet be more vile than thus, and will be base in mine own
sight: and of the maidservants which thou hast spoken of, of them shall
I be had in honor. {of the...: or, of} {pitched: Heb. Stretch}
Michal was the wife of King David and the daughter of King Saul. She
loved David and admired him. The Bible shows us how she admired him even
before he married her and you can find this clearly stated in 1 Samuel
18:20. She admired his brave character, his gentleness but most of all
his success. She knew he was a special man and saw how he was a great
fighter, a hero by all means. Wherever he went he prospered and defeated
his enemies. And so she married him and at one time she decided to help
him escape from her father’s hands because she knew he was a success
and that he would make an honorable king one day. David was the man of
the hour at that time and rose up like a torch in the midst of the darkest
hour of his people. At that time the Philistines were oppressing his people
and even the king with all his armies were unable to get rid of them.
David rose up as a deliverer. Handsome looking, meek and brave, he was
more than any person could imagine. And although she loved him and admired
his success, she despised the very reason of it. When she saw how David
was dancing before the lord and humbling himself before him in the presence
of all the people, she disliked it very much and despised him in her very
heart.
How ignorant she was? She couldn’t see that the reason behind all
the great things she loved about David was that very thing she disliked,
his humbleness before his lord. She admired his success yet she despised
the very means (way, path, reason) of it. What made David so great and
greater than Saul here father was that he lived in fellowship with God
and was humble before him. David explained to here that clearly saying;
“I am humble before my God and this is the very reason I made it
to the palace and I am still successful till today. And I will always
humble myself before him and as a result before my servant I will always
be exalted. This is my secret of success Michal”(paraphrasing).
See, this is what happens everyday in many of our lives. The world will
despise the people of God; yet, they will admire the peace they have,
the success they make and the results that speaks clearly in their life.
They will admire what he is but despise very much the mentality by which
he acts because it is against their logic. They will desire to have such
peace yet ignore Jesus, such success yet despise the consecrate-set apart-
life. Child of God the message is, never allow the opinion of the world
to shape your decisions. People might think you’re a great man but
disapprove that you spend so much time with the bible or that you are
so serious about never skipping church or that you are too picky on what
you watch on T.V or picky on where you go out or with who you fellowship.
Don’t be deceived; this is the secret of your strength. If you give
it up you will be a failure, you will loose every great thing you have.
If David gave up those things that Michal despised, he would have ended
up like Saul; a king that lost his strength, dignity and finally his thrown.
David chose to live God loud and be unashamed. It is our choice to live
God loud and unashamed. Be unashamed. |
